About

Soprano Alison Lau is from Hong Kong, and is currently based in Amsterdam. She has graduated with a master’s degree from the New England Conservatory in Boston and a bachelor's degree from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in classical singing. After her studies, Alison embarked on a diverse career: she was a young artist at Opera Hong Kong, frequently curated art songs recitals, and became the first classical singer in Hong Kong to record with Universal Music and Decca Records, working with them to promote classical music on mass media platforms. At the same time, Alison began singing with Die Konzertisten and Song is Being, the pioneering ensembles dedicated to historically informed performance practice in Hong Kong. Through their projects, Alison discovered not only a passion for baroque music, but also a curiosity for different approaches to music. In 2018, Alison was invited by Eduardo Lopez Banzo to sing with Al Ayre Español in Germany, and that concert tour was one of the defining moments that brought Alison to Europe eventually.

In October 2021, Alison moved to Amsterdam to study Historical Performance at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under the guidance of Xenia Meijer. Since March 2022, Alison has performed with Ton Koopman's Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir, and with Nederlandse Bachvereniging under the leadership of Shunske Sato and Masato Suzuki. In autumn 2023, Alison made her Belgium debut as a soloist with Il Gardellino, she also joined the Nederlands Kamerkoor as a freelancer. Her recent solo appearances include the role of Euridice in an opera scenes performance of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice with Sigiswald Kuijken at La Petite Bande Academy, Seraph in Beethoven’s Christus am Ölberge led by Peter van Heyghen, Vivaldi’s Nulla in Mundo with Amsterdamse Bachvereniging and Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri with Vocaal Ensemble Kwarts in Haarlem. Alison is a founding member of baroque ensembles Pont Baroque and Song is Being.
